Tadoba Tiger Reserve well known by Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in India. This Park is situated in Chandrapur district and in the heart of Maharashtra state. The park was established in 1995 totals the area of 1727 sq km and combines Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary which was created in the year 1986. Later in 1995 this park was recognised as Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve by the amalgamation of the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. Tadoba National Park is nearly in 150 km from Nagpur City. This is one of the oldest and largest National Park in Maharashtra. It’s one of India’s 47 project tiger reserves existing in India. There are about 43 tigers in the reserve, which is one of the highest in India. The Tadoba National Park is segregated into three different forest ranges i.e Tadoba North Range, Kolsa South Range and Morhurli range which is said to be the sandwich in between the two. The park consist of two lakes and one river in the park which gets filled every monsoon, the ‘Tadoba Lake,’ ‘Kolsa Lake,’ and ‘Tadoba River.’ These lakes and rivers provide vital ingredients needed to sustain the park’s life. Every walk with Tadoba will give far more than what one seeks in National Park.
There is an astonishing history of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve were the word ‘Tadoba’ is derived from the name of God “Tadoba” or “Taru,” which is praised by local tribal people of this region and “Andhari” is derived from the name of Andhari river that flows in this area. It is said that Taru known as the head of the village who was killed in a great encounter with the tiger. Later this the temple was dedicated to lord Shiva, this was situated under a huge tree and on the banks of the Tadoba Lake. In the same way river Andhari was named as “ Andhari” which goes round to the forest. In the early days the kings of Gond ruled over the forest around the Chimur Hills. Hunting was strictly prohibited during 1935 and later in 1955 the area of 116 sq km was accepted as National Park.
One need to take a walk in the woods of Tadoba National Park and he/she will come out taller than the trees. Its that amazing in Tadoba!. It is primarily Southern Tropical dry deciduous forest, which combines about 87% of the protected area and thick woodlands. The park consists of 141 species of trees and about 58 vegetation families which are registered in the reserve. In the form of aggressive weed species in Tadoba there are three species named as Hypothesis suvelens, lantana cameras and perthenium historophores. Teak and bamboo are the most popular species of trees in Tadoba. The other major species which are spotted in Tadoba protected area are: Bore Bell, Beheida, Hira, Karaya Gum, Mahua, Madhuka ( Crepe Murtle), Lana Kormendlica ( Vodiar tree), Chichewa, Rudra, Kusum, Mahua, Moyi, Fahra, Rohan, Shisham, Sisu, Shivan, Sun, Cirrus and Jamuna. There are sails or flam-colored plantations of forest boota monosperm that gives a vibrant touch to the dence forest of Tadoba Tiger Reserve. All these can be experience during the safari of Andhari Tadoba Tiger Reserve.
Andheri Tadoba National Park is famous as ‘ Land of Tigers’. Obviously because of its large number of tigers according to the survey around 88 tigers can be found here. Bengal tiger species are easily spotted in Tadoba , besides this park is a home to other mammals like Sloth Bear, Leopard, Wild Spot Cat, Gaur (Indian Bison), Indian Mouse Deer, Ratel, Sambar, Wild Pig, Spot Deer, Flying Squirre, Four Horn. Not only this about 195 species of birds can be found here including bee, crusted serpent eagle, shy wild birds, brown fishing eagles, paradise flycatchers etc. Endangered species of reptiles like Indian Dragon, terrapin, are spotted during the tour of Tadoba national park .In addition to it star turtle, cobra, giant wood spider, signature spider and red timber spider are found in monsoon season in the safari of Tadoba Tiger Reserve.
The park consist of six zones in totality in Tadoba Tiger Reserve that gives access to entrance door to the sanctuary which consists of numerous variety of animals. Jeep safari – Open jeep safaris are available in Tadoba Tiger reserve. Minimum one person or maximum 6 persons can be accommodated in a jeep. One guide/ naturalist is allotted to each Jeep. Canter safari – This is a big open vehicle, like a jeep but can accommodate 22 persons,this is an economical option and is a shared safari. Canter safaris are not online booked. This is good for family group bookings of safari. Canters are available only on core zones in Moharli and Kolara.
Park entry zones for Jungle Safari in Tadoba Tiger Reserve –
Kolara zone, Tadoba Jungle Safari: It is one of the core zone in Tadoba Tiger Reserve, only few jeep entries are allowed in the morning and evening. The distance from Nagpur to Tadoba, Kolara zone is 120 Kms. Online safari bookings are to be done between 90 days to 120 days in advance to get the Tadoba safari of this entry zone. Along with Jeep safaris in Kolara zone, Canters safaris are also allowed in this part of the Tadoba forest.
Navegaon Gate, Tadoba Jungle Safari: This zone is also one of the Core zones of Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Distance from Nagpur to Tadoba, Navegaon is approximately 140 Kms. This zone is the territory of many Tigers & Tigress with cubs is often sighted. Tourists staying towards Kolara can easily access the Navegaon safari of Tadoba Forest.
Moharli Gate Tadoba Jungle Safari: Moharli zone in tadoba is in Chandrapur district. Distance from Chandrapur to moharli, Tadoba is 35 Kms. Located approximately 140 km away from Nagpur, this is said to be the most famous and oldest entrance to the park. Jamun Jhori, Teliya lake are few must visit places in moharli zone . This is also the territory of Tigress with cubs. Chances of sightings are high in Teliya lake as is one of the biggest water body in the forwst.
Khutvanda Gate Tadoba Jungle Safari: Khutvanda Gate also leads to the Moharli Zone. This gate is located at a distance of 140 km from Nagpur. For Tadoba tiger safari trip, tourists stay towards Moharli and take the safari ride from Khutvanda. This is one of the core zone of the forest. Agrazari Zone Tadoba Jungle Safari: It is located at a distance of approximately 150 Km from Nagpur. There are many water bodies inside this part of Tadoba forest. Tadoba Safari timing varies from time to time whereas from 1st October to 30th November morning safari is from 6 am to 10 am and the evening is from 2:30 pm to 6:30 Pm.
From 1st December to 28th/ 29th February morning is from 6:30 am to 11 and in evening from 2 pm to 6 pm.
From 1st March to 30th April morning is 5:30am to 10am and 3 pm to 6:30 pm.
From 1st May to 30th June morning is from 5 am to 9:30 am and 3:30 pm to 7 pm.

The nearest airport to Tadoba is Nagpur which is in distance of 140 km from Moharli and 115 Kms from Kolara zone. From which one can take a three hour taxi ride to reach Tadoba National Park. If talking about nearest railway station to Tadoba then its Chandrapur and Nagpur. The Nearest bus stop to reach Tadoba Tiger reserve is Chandrapur 35 Kms and Chimur is in 32 kms.
